DESCRIPTION:
France, oversized Comtoise lantern clock, month running, time and strike with alarm, weight driven movement with verge escapement, rear-mounted thread suspension in a iron post and plate frame with turned brass feet in the front, pewter chapter ring with Roman numerals for the hours, outer ring with Arabic numerals every 5 minutes, brass alarm ring with Arabic numerals, pierced flat brass fronton and lower spandrels, and two brass hands.
CONDITION:
Large pewter chapter ring has some tarnish and loss of black shellac within the numerals. Large brass hands with evidence of hand-finishing. Bell with striped pattern. Some light rust on iron posts and plates. Iron fan with four blades and large cut-outs. Movement uprights with distinct feet. The side doors are missing. The suspension shroud measures just over 4 inches tall. The clock does not come with weights or a pendulum. The time train weight will need to be larger than most for a Comtoise clock.
